As a college student, you’ve probably tried a ton of new things that you never thought you would have. Some of them are probably cringe-worthy to think about! Yet we don’t regret them, maybe, because you came out of these experiences with a newfound interest, new friends, or one heck of a good story to tell one day. Similar are the benefits of studying abroad, experiencing a new culture, learning a language, meeting people from over the globe, eating a variety of food, it is all exhilarating.
While psychology as a subject was not given much significance in India, research in the subject has left a lot to be desired. Now, many Indian Universities are catching up to the demand of young psychologists and opening up the domain, studying and practicing psychology is on a rise but with new career opportunities opening in the domestic markets, more and more students are now eyeing universities abroad for a degree in Psychology that would help them get the edge.
Psychology has been well appreciated as a subject by the reputed global universities. Here’s a quick look at what all kinds of abroad degrees are offered in Psychology.
For undergraduate studies, the requirement in knowledge would be broadly categorized by the kind of degree the university is offering. For instance, a BA or Bachelor of Arts would ideally accept a student with a foundation in Arts and Humanities, while a BSc or Bachelor of Science in Psychology would ideally look for Science subjects – Biology, Organic Chemistry, and Mathematics along with psychology.
Typically, a 3-4 years long undergraduate program in Psychology would help you develop a strong foundational base to understand Psychology as a subject. A post-graduate of 2-3 years (master’s degree), it would help you specialise in Psychology. A Ph.D. (Doctorate) in Psychology is a 3 year purely research-based degree, which requires complete training in psychology.
Important points to keep in mind while applying for courses internationally are the requirements for admission, that are giving the English language tests like TOEFL/IELTS/PTE and sitting the Scholastic aptitude test (SAT) and Graduate record examination (GRE) that are mandatory for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions respectively, in the United States of America and Canada. Having a good profile and maintaining good grades is essential.
We wish you all the very best and success in your future endeavors.
