The National Testing Agency (NTA), established by the Ministry of Education (MoE) is an independent and autonomous testing organization under the Societies Registration Act(1860) for conducting efficient and transparent standardized tests to assess the competency of candidates for admission to higher education institutions with a mission to improve quality in education by developing and administering research-based valid, reliable, efficient, transparent, fair and international level assessments.
The National Testing Agency has released the academic calendar for some major exams to be held in the year 2024-25 on its official website. Let us explore the following two exams in much detail in this blog below:
COMMON UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE TEST – PG (CUET-PG 2024)
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) PG is an all-India level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency for admission into postgraduate courses in Central and participating Universities for the academic session 2024-2025.
Note: As per the official updates by the TISS, candidates appearing for CUET PG 2024 can also apply for admission to TISS as well. TISS has officially abandoned the TISSNET exam.

CUET PG 2024 – ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The basic eligibility to apply for CUET PG is a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline. Candidates must be graduated from a recognized institute or university. The candidates who have passed the bachelor’s degree or appearing in 2024 irrespective of their age can appear in master’s degree programs in the Central Universities through CUET (PG) 2024 examination. However, as the eligibility criteria for admission may be unique for every University, the candidates are advised to visit the University website to which they are applying for their respective programs.

UGC – NET 2024 SESSION-1
The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is a prominent national-level examination in India conducted twice a year to determine eligibility for the role of Assistant Professor and the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in various universities and colleges across the country. Administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the UGC NET assesses the candidates’ knowledge and proficiency in the subject of their discipline.
The test consists of two papers, Paper-I and Paper-II, with multiple-choice questions aimed at evaluating the candidates’ teaching and research aptitude along with their subject-specific expertise.
Paper 1: The questions asked are generic in nature, intending to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness of the candidate.
Paper 2: The questions asked are based upon the subject, chosen by the candidate. However, for any subject, people choose, the exam pattern remains the same for all.

UGC NET ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
UGC NET Eligibility Criteria is determined under the following heads:
- Nationality
A candidate must be an Indian citizen to apply for the UGC NET exam. Candidates holding citizenship in any other country are not eligible to apply. However, if an Indian citizen lives in another country, they can still take the exam. However, such candidates must have the proper documents to prove their Indian nationality.
- Age Limit & Relaxation
- UGC NET JRF – The candidate age appearing for the JRF exam must be under 30 years.
- UGC NET Assistant Professor Exam – There is no age limit for the candidates who are appearing for the UGC NET Assistant Professor post.
Note: There is no limit on the number of attempts for both JRF and AP
The NTA provides a specific age relaxation to candidates who belong to certain categories, as per the rules issued by the Government of India.

- Educational Qualification
- Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only.
- Candidates in the General Category must have an aggregate of 55% and SC, ST, and OBC must have a 50% aggregate in their Masters Degree from universities or institutions recognised by UGC.
- Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Masters degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited may also apply for this test.
- The PhD holders whose masters degree was completed on September 19, 1991, are eligible for a 5% relaxation in aggregate marks.
