The Brain Signal Lab: EEG, Biofeedback & Neurofeedback. From Brain Signals to Real-Time Feedback
Date: 9th-10th October 2026
Psychopedia and Shradha Maudgil (Neuropsychologist) successfully conducted The Brain Signal Lab: EEG, Biofeedback & Neurofeedback, a two-part online workshop designed to introduce participants to the science of brain signals and the principles behind biofeedback and neurofeedback.
The workshop offered participants an accessible introduction to the relationship between brain activity, physiological signals and real-time feedback. Key topics included the basics of neuroanatomy and neuronal communication; understanding electroencephalography (EEG) and brainwave frequency bands; electrode placement and the international 10–20 system; identifying signal artefacts and understanding the limitations of EEG; and exploring how biofeedback and neurofeedback use feedback mechanisms to support self-regulation and learning.
The second session focused on the practical principles of neurofeedback, including feedback loops, reinforcement, training targets, neuroplasticity, equipment and the structure of a typical training session. Participants also explored potential applications across psychology, neuropsychology and related fields, alongside discussions on research design, outcome measurement, evidence interpretation and the importance of distinguishing changes in brain signals from meaningful behavioural or clinical improvements. Interactive activities, simulated examples and case-based discussions helped participants engage with the concepts without requiring actual EEG recordings or equipment.
Objective of the workshop:
To familiarise participants with the fundamental principles of EEG, biofeedback and neurofeedback, and to develop a foundational understanding of how brain signals can be measured, interpreted cautiously and used in feedback-based training. The workshop aimed to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application while encouraging scientific thinking and evidence-informed practice.
Outcome:
Participants gained a foundational understanding of EEG and brainwave activity, the mechanisms underlying biofeedback and neurofeedback, and their potential applications in psychology and neuroscience. Through interactive exercises and case-based activities, they were encouraged to think critically about training protocols, outcome measures and the interpretation of research findings. The workshop concluded by reinforcing the importance of scientific rigour, ethical practice and realistic expectations when exploring brain-based interventions.
