The time after you’re done with your bachelors is definitely a difficult one. There are so many things happening all at ones. Your classmates are discussing their over the top plans, your teachers are yelling about your scores, your parents want you to make something out of yourself, your boyfriend/girlfriend are demanding more time! In all this chaos, becomes truly very difficult to realize what exactly it is that YOU want. The first and foremost thing that you must do, it take a deep breath and relax, because if you’re a psychology student then I’ve got you covered.
The process of choosing certain colleges to apply for further studies is definitely a difficult one. More than being difficult, it is confusing. The internet will offer you certain information which won’t even make any sense. You would be wasting hours and hours, trying to find from the various websites and browsing up the names of colleges or cities you aspire to go to, and the result might end up being what you did not expect.
To prevent this from happening, I have shortlisted a few colleges that everyone from a psychology background, MUST apply to. Ranging from private to government, these colleges/universities, and offer a lot more than just theoretical knowledge. They facilitate practical learning and deep understanding of the subject of Psychology. With trained faculty and an atmosphere which will provide you the opportunities to explore your potential to the maximum, these below mentioned colleges are a must try!
- Christ University, Bangalore
Moving to the south of India is often considered as the best course of action when it comes to pursuing psychology. In India, psychology is flourishing in the cities situation down below. When it comes to Christ, though it is a private university and you will definitely be paying a lot more than what Chandigarh costs, the experience will be worth it. Giving you a chance to major in M.sc Clinical Psychology, M.Sc. Counselling psychology and M.Sc. HRDM, Christ with its well-trained faculty will serve as the little boost you need to work on honing your practical skills and broadening your theoretical knowledge.
- Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (TISS)
The lovely city of Mumbai with all its stardom and wonder, is definitely one of the top cities students wish to go to in order to make their colleges years more eventful. The city in itself is a land of opportunities. Overpopulated and buzzing with new activities, it offers the developing psychologists a chance to try out their knowledge on a wide variety of patients.
Like Christ, TISS is again a private college. You’ll have to clear TISSNET (a very general paper comprising of the verbal section, logical reasoning/mathematics and general knowledge) in order to be eligible for the college.
- Symbiosis, Pune
Now, when asked from the people residing in Maharashtra, you will hear this burning fact that when it comes to education, Pune is definitely better than Mumbai. This might be a subjective perspective of the people but from anyone whom I have had a conversation with, they have mentioned this to me time and time again.
Now when it comes to Symbiosis, the college is again a private one. It comes under the Pune University (SavitribaiPhule Pune University) and the college has freshly opened its doors for MA in psychology. So if you’re aiming to go for Clinical or counselling, Symbiosis is another college you can apply for.
- Indian Institute of Psychology & Research, Bangalore
The name itself suggests that the only subject of focus is going to be psychology. The college, according to some, has a school like atmosphere. However, in terms of knowledge gained and exposure offered, it is definitely a good one. Bangalore in itself is a hub when it comes to all the good colleges.
With IIPR however, the admission process is going to be different and slightly difficult as you’ll have to do things the old schooled way. The form is definitely a bit pricy as well and the options offered are just 2: M.Sc. Counselling and M.Sc. Psychology, but if you’re planning on going for either of these, then the college is a perfect one for you!
- Fergusson, Pune
Another amazing college to opt for when it comes to psychology. However, the difficult part about pursuing your masters from here is that there are only 20 seats and the fight for them is a tough one. If you do, however, crack the entrance and the interview, the world is yours! Fergusson will offer you opportunities like never before and in the city of Pune, as a student, you would get to explore a lot and learn a lot. With it comes to these major cities, there is no shortage of internship for a psychology student!
There are various other colleges to choose from, but the cream section includes these five! Getting into them would obviously mean learning a lot more and getting the practical knowledge down.
